Beginning of skialp/freeride season at Chata pod Rysmi

From 26 to 30 December 2009 classic winter mountaineering camp was held by 155th HO Vsetín. Chata pod Rysmi was chosen as a place of action. Although we are not members, we participated at this event. Weather forecast changed almost every hour and the Christmas rain did not bode well, so the result seems to be at least uncertain, particularly with regard to the freeride riding in powder.

Dec 26 in early morning we board to Chuckie´s Peugeot 106 and with just one the intermediate stop at Jablůnka by Klara and then also by Palic, we continue towards Strbske Pleso. The way was a long and especially for the car it had to be hard experience. This car is not constructed to handle such a burden. However, we managed to successfully achieve our goal.

After getting out of the car a single thing was missing – snow, but at least the weather was fine. To the Popradské pleso there goes asphalt road and we go there on feet, some people in the ski boots, others in the mountain boots – having the ski boots in its backpack. The first option is probably better, as it is shown in the course of the next journey. We reach the chalet not until the evening, someone quite easily, others (like me) very tired and in the deep dark.

The next day the weather is relatively OK, so we go into the saddle Vaha and then in the direction to Rysy (2504 m). However, before the top we turn back, because of the lack of ice axes and perhaps moral. During the way up we had a unique opportunity to observe Matus ugly fall during his downhill skiing – he slips on the hidden ice and brakes upon the valley to the Czech valley. It was not nice view for the start. For my powder freeride skis there are really not proper conditions, so ridding down is just trying to survive. At the cottage I changed skis with Chuckie and we romp to all ways, but is not the true adventure. Evening at the cottage is a cultural experience with all the trimmings, at least where my memory goes…

Morning headaches and terrible weather. The whole day we rolled out, only Haikos shows hellish descents from Cesky stit and the group of skialpinists goes to the Czech valley. In the evening I borrow Matus´s Movement ski with Tech tying deploying and ideas in my head-after all the Marker Duke will be the most ideal binding.

But what it's waking up next day! Sun, blue sky and half feet of fresh powder. Occur all day orgy interspersed trimming of nave and avalanche training. When training with avalanche search engine was over, an avalanche by climbers descending from the Czech shield was released. Lucky nothing happened and the resulting avalanche field was used in night for further training.

So what do we do now?

The last day the weather is bad again, so we just pack valise and descent back to the car at Strbske pleso.
